Dear Supporter

The demonstration on Saturday was a tremendous success, attracting around 300 in Hackney, and joined for a joint rally by a further 200 from Tower Hamlets. The march was representative of the full range of health workers, with doctors, nurses, therapists, advocates, and support workers of all kinds. There was also a brilliant turnout from the local community: a particularly good presence from the Turkish community, many pensioners participating, and service users from the Homerton Hospital, the Primary Care Trust and the Mental Health Trust. George Galloway MP spoke, and Diane Abbott MP sent a message of support. The message sent loud and clear from the march was: ‘Hands off our NHS’.

Pictures will follow, when we have time to sort them out!

It’s looking increasingly likely that we’ll be having a union-backed national demonstration in July. Details will be circulated as these become known.

The Council’s Health Scrutiny Commission meets at 7pm at Hackney Town Hall on Thursday 8th March. It will be discussing the cuts at the Homerton Hospital and the financial position of the Primary Care Trust. Come along to this meeting if you can make it. It’s important that the Council understands just how much local people value our health services.
